The FILM: Mukisa (Drama)
After the tragic loss of her husband in a car accident, Mukisa finds herself at a crossroads. Instead of conforming to the traditional cultural practice of becoming her brother-in-law's wife, she embarks on a journey of following her dream of becoming a beautician in the small village where she grew up. Selling off a portion of her late husband's land, she acquires enough money to open up a salon in an environment where the local women view makeup as something that only women of questionable virtue use.
Through social media videos, Mukisa teaches herself what she feels are the
skills that would pave her road to success. But when she opens the doors to
her salon, she struggles to convince anyone to visit, until an older woman,
Mwagale walks in asking for a job. Desperate for companionship and for a
chance at success, Mukisa and Mwagale form an unlikely bond and set out to
change the female mind-set in the village.
