After "Kalabanda" winning numerous awards on the festival circuit, he finally submitted it for a creatives competition in South Africa in which he emerged a shortlisted winner, and that's when he found out the real motive for the competition.
Disney had hired a South African firm to look for very creative African talent to spearhead a new project centered on different African themed futuristic concepts for a new animated series. And that's how Malinga ended up at Disney Animation Studios Directing arguably the biggest project of his career to date.
Raymond has always been a very high achiever right from the beginning. He got his Bachelor’s Degree in Animation and Visual Effects from Multimedia University Cyberjaya, Malaysia, where his graduation short film White Collar Time (2014) earned him several accolades in several International student film award competitions.
He also worked on two animated TV shows in Malaysia, Didi & Friends and Ejen Ali under Digital Durian Studio and Wau Animation Studio respectively.
In 2014 he decided to quit his job at Wau Animation and return to start his journey towards making an impact on the local and continental animation industry in Africa. Just to find himself at Disney a few years later working on what can be termed as an animators dream.
