Mom loved her Luther Vandross and Diana Ross but I wasn’t into that back then he continues…

After the outcry over Will Smith’s Nigerian Accent (which was not that bad I might add) QUEEN OF KATWE seems to have gotten the accents right. The reason for this may be the fact that the movie was actually shot in Uganda (a part of it anyway) in the very place Phiona Mutesi grew up, KATWE.
Also it was shot by seasoned Director Mira Nair who has done a number of projects in Uganda before and who also runs a Film Development Academy in the Country called Maisha Films, plus Lupita Nyong’o who lived next door in Kenya has also done a couple of projects in Uganda before so you know getting it right on film was not a problem for Mira Nair. And boy did she get it right.
David Oyelowo will be remembered in Queen of Katwe as the Nigerian who got the Ugandan accent right (to be fair he was supposed to do only the Luganda accent spoken by the man he plays in the film Robert Katende but he did mix a couple of other accents from different tribes in there but they’re all Ugandan).
And for anyone watching this Film in Uganda, it will actually feel like
Based on the book with the same name, Queen of Katwe by ESPN Writer Tim Crothers is a true story about Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi played by Madina Nalwanga. The trailer for the Disney produced film is finally out starring David Oyelowo, Lupita Nyong’o and Introducing Madina Nalwanga as Phiona Mutesi. Directed by Mira Nair. Watch!!!

Director Ebony Atlanta Butler has just premiered a very controversial Documentary called ‘A Brilliant Genocide’ which puts the spotlight of the atrocities that took place in Northern Uganda squarely on President Yoweri Museveni and accuses the World of a “Silent Conspiracy” against the people of Uganda.
It features interviews from Dr. Kizza Besigye, Gen David Sejusa, Hon. Nobert Mao, Dr. Olara Otunnu and (allegedly) from Joseph Kony himself.
This is one movie sure to raffle more than a few feathers in high government circles.
