THE FALLEN ADVOCATE: Kevin Johns' Director's Statement
As a female young Lawyer, I have a very strong attachment to this story, first of all because it depicts the lives led by fresh female graduates after attaining their Law degrees. Some get stuck on where to start from, In their attempt to practice the law and build their statuses as well as get some money, they go through psychological torture resulting from sexual harassments and disrespect from unethical legal practitioners.
Sometimes they are forced to give in to these inhumane demands due to lack of options, few of these survive the claws of these vultures and these include the less desperate such as the rich, those with connections, those with extremely outstanding grades, those that choose to give up on their careers and maybe find men to marry them off as well as those lucky enough to meet good and clean people on their journey.
In The Fallen Advocate, Audrey is one of those that fell prey of these inhumane legal practitioners, her boss employs her on condition that she has to seduce prominent male lawyers with powerful cases and steal their evidence and research so as to win cases at their expense.
Her obligation to pay school fees and bills for her siblings in the village as well as to afford her own standards of living in the city plus looking out for her grandmother forces her to do as her boss pleases.
I chose to tell this story because I am a woman and a Lawyer as well as a storyteller, I have seen such scenarios happen in the legal fraternity that’s why I want to pass on this message through The Fallen Advocate
I chose to tell this story because I am a woman and a Lawyer as well as a storyteller, I have seen such scenarios happen in the legal fraternity that’s why I want to pass on this message through The Fallen Advocate to all learned and Learning friends out there as well as the society to be cautious and aware of the various vices in the legal profession.
I want to urge them to be strong and stand their grounds of decency and self-respect, they shouldn’t strip so low just to get a job or promotion. Secondly, I want to educate men out there that not every beautiful woman they meet is to be trusted, they ought to be cautious before opening up their hearts and secrets to them.
I also want to educate society that these unethical legal practitioners who violet the professional code of conduct of the Legal profession are not in any way above the law, they can be punished accordingly.
Through Counsel Lumu Franklin I want to educate all employees out there to respect their jobs and observe all professional ethics required of them amidst hard work and commitment.
Lastly, I want to use The Fallen Advocate as a source of entertainment to society, as a story teller, I would love to bring to light that love can surpass all challenges, the bond and affection between Counsel Franklin and Audrey does not break despite the pain resulting from the thought of betrayal and treachery.
