Kampala — On Friday, 23rd October 2026, Ugandan comedy fans witnessed a
historic debut of the comedy show "2 Kings 1 Mic", a new standup comedy show
headlined by Patrick Idringi (Salvado) and Dr. Hilary Okello. The
well-received show marked a significant moment and milestone for the local
standup comedy scene.
In a rare backstory of how the show came about, Salvado shared some reflections on fairness in the industry and the unexpected coincidences that made it all possible.
For years, Salvado had built and grown a brand called Africa Laughs, where he has hosted different international artists in Kampala for one-night-only shows. “It has grown to become a household show with great reviews and attendance,” he said. “But the costs involved in organising this show have been ridiculous but thank God I had backup from sponsors who believe in the show.” Salvado continues.

Last year’s seventh edition of Africa Laughs gave him a revelation. “The show was amazing no doubt but one person who stood out and had the best performance was a Ugandan, Dr. Hilary Okello,” Salvado recalled. “The other Ugandans on the lineup equally did well, and I looked at how much I paid them compared to the international artists and it was very unfair.”
This realisation led him to a decision. “So I made up my mind to try something new, I decided I’ll try out an all Ugandan show and see what happens.” The choice of Dr. Hilary Okello felt natural. Salvado noted that every time Okello posted one of his videos online, comparisons flooded the comments and his own name kept appearing. “That’s when I was like this is it.”

The idea received an unexpected confirmation during a backstage conversation
after a Comedy Store performance hosted by Alex Muhangi at the UMA
Showgrounds. While the comedians were chilling backstage, Okello pulled
Salvado aside and said, “Pato, Naye Lwaki tetukola show fembi?” "Pato, But why
don't we do a show together". Salvado admitted he almost cried. “That was my
plan all along,” he said. At the time, he had already tentatively booked
Serena for the eighth edition of Africa Laughs. His response was immediate:
“Olopede ku Police coz this is what I’ve been thinking of doing.”
“Well as they say, the rest is history,” Salvado wrote, “and indeed history was made on the 23rd of October 2026 when the #2Kings1Mic brand was born.” With raving reviews and success beyond what any had anticipated, it was only inevitable that the industry would take notice.
Salvado was also deliberate on the fact that the show needed a strong
local cast thus bringing in performers like Cotilda Enapo and Okello Kelo who
delivered very strong sets on the night. And not forgetting the Host of the
night Dr. Mich Ronnie Egwang who anchored the entire event, contributing to
the night’s wild success.
Salvado expressed deep appreciation to everyone who believed in the project and turned up for the show. He also specifically thanked the sponsors who took a chance in this new idea and immediately announced that he has already set a date for the next edition of the show.
He said, “Come October 29th 2027, we promise a bigger and better show", "So please don’t hesitate to open your doors to us when we come knocking.”
