There has been a lot of speculation in media circles as to what plans Magic FM & Television have up their sleeves after what seemed like a media coup orchestrated by Buddies CEO J.Kazoora who it was revealed, would be taking over the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation stations.
But as activities ramp up to the re-launch date some time next month, a lot of speculation as to what J.Kazoora’s plans are, have been keeping a few media heads sleepless. It has been an open secret that after the ‘Magic’ deal, a massive head-hunting drive for top Ugandan talent from established stations has been ongoing. Including big surprises like Sanyu Fm’s ‘Fat Boy’ who has been with Sanyu for about 20yrs now. Also on the list are names of the ‘new vets’ like Radio City’s McKenzie.
When contacted by AccessKla for comment, J.Kazoora did confirm to us that they had indeed approached the two radio vets among others, but went on to insist that nothing was concrete yet stating, ”Fatboy works for Sanyu Fm and McKenzie works for Radio City” although adding shortly after that, “But we’ll see if we can get them for Television instead”.
Since news broke of J.Kazoora’s taking over the stations, many seasoned vets in the industry have received phone calls and from what we know, no station is safe, radio or television. So, we’ll just wait and see which stations will be left limping after this ‘coup’ is complete. The magic stations (which are already on air) will re-launch with new programming sometime in April.
